KMOS: an infrared multi-integral field spectrograph for the VLT
نویسندگان
چکیده
We describe a proposed 2 generation instrument (KMOS) for the ESO VLT which will deliver a unique multiple deployable integral field capability in the near-infrared (1-2.5ìm). The science drivers for such an instrument are presented and linked to the functional specification. The overall instrument concept is discussed in the context of two proposed solutions for delivering a deployable integral field capability. Detailed discussions of these two approaches, and ongoing prototype studies, are described in separate papers.

KMOS: an infrared multiple object integral field spectrograph for the ESO VLT
We describe the design of a 2 generation instrument for the ESO VLT which will deliver a unique multiple deployable integral field capability in the near-infrared (1-2.5μm). The science drivers for the instrument are presented and linked to the functional specification. The baseline instrument concept is described with emphasis on technological innovations. Detailed discussions of specific tech...

We propose a new multi-object spectrograph for the VLT. MAXIMUS (MAXimum MUltiplex Spectrograph) will fully exploit the multiplexing capabilities of the OzPoz fibre positioner in order to extend and complement FLAMES and VIMOS in covering observational parameter space, and to meet the increasing demand for multi-object spectroscopy by ESO users in the next decade. 1 The OzPoz fibre positioner T...

The VIRMOS consortium of French and Italian Institutes (PI: O. Le Fèvre, co-PI: G. Vettolani) is manufacturing two wide field imaging multi-object spectrographs for the European Southern Observatory Very Large Telescope (VLT), with emphasis on the ability to carry over spectroscopic surveys of large numbers of sources: the VIsible Multi-Object Spectrograph, VIMOS, and the Near InfraRed MultiObj...
متن کاملThe FALCON concept: multi-object adaptive optics and atmospheric tomography for integral field spectroscopy – principles and performance on an 8-m telescope
Integral field spectrographs are major instruments with which to study the mechanisms involved in the formation and the evolution of early galaxies. When combined with multi-object spectroscopy, those spectrographs can behave as machines used to derive physical parameters of galaxies during their formation process. Up to now, there has been only one available spectrograph with multiple integral...

We describe MIFS, a second generation integral-field spectrograph for the VLT, operating in the visible wavelength range. It combines a 1 ′ × 1 ′ field of view with the improved spatial resolution provided by multi-conjugate adaptive optics and covers a large simultaneous spectral range (0.6–1.0 µm). A separate mode exploits the highest spatial resolution provided by adaptive optics. With this ...
